Los grupos que defienden los derechos de los inmigrantes en Estados Unidos multiplican acciones de cabildeo en el Congreso para pedir a los senadores que introduzcan modificaciones al proyecto de ley de reforma migratoria que resolvieron comenzar a debatir el lunes.

Algunas de estas agrupaciones organizaron este martes un evento en salas del Congreso para pedir cambios al proyecto, menos de 24 horas despu?de que el Senado abriera formalmente el debate sobre una iniciativa de ley que es producto de un acuerdo de democratas y republicanos, con apoyo de la Casa Blanca.

Amendments to resolutions will open July 1, 2008

Today we write to you with very exciting news. Due to overwhelming interest, the National Latino Congreso will convene a third Congreso this summer. The event will be held over two days in Los Angeles, California at the Westin Bonaventure on July 18th and the Sheraton Downtown on July 19th. Registration for the 2008 National Latino Congreso will open Monday, March 24, 2008. Please continue to check back and don't forget to Endorse and Register!

The National Latino Congreso is convened by:

  • William C. Velasquez Institute (WCVI);
  • Southwest Voter Registration Education Project (SVREP);
  • National Hispanic Environmental Council (NHEC);
  • National Day Labor Organization Network (NDLON);
  • National Alliance of Latin American and Caribbean Communities (NALACC);
  • Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF);
  • League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC);
  • Labor Council for Latin American Advancement (LCLAA)
  • Hispanic Federation (HF)

Each day of the Congreso will address substantive policy issues at the national level, including foreign and domestic policy; health care and education; issues on the environment; and education.

Day One, Friday, July 18th will focus on Presidential Issues and Elections with several sessions dedicated to interactions with the U.S. Presidential campaigns. A separate Republican Luncheon and Democratic Dinner will also be held this day. Saturday, July 19th Day Two will focus on Congressional Issues and Elections as well as State and Local Elections, Initiatives, and Issues.

On behalf of those delegates we conveners call on you to come to Los Angeles with your network, organization, elected official, business, union, church, etc. to participate in this most important policy-making and electoral strategy gathering. Join us in leveraging our power to make change.
