Los grupos que defienden los derechos de los inmigrantes en Estados Unidos multiplican acciones de cabildeo en el Congreso para pedir a los senadores que introduzcan modificaciones al proyecto de ley de reforma migratoria que resolvieron comenzar a debatir el lunes.

Algunas de estas agrupaciones organizaron este martes un evento en salas del Congreso para pedir cambios al proyecto, menos de 24 horas despu?de que el Senado abriera formalmente el debate sobre una iniciativa de ley que es producto de un acuerdo de democratas y republicanos, con apoyo de la Casa Blanca.

Whereas, Academia Semillas del Pueblo Xinaxcalmecac since its inception in 2002 has offered an elite education to the children of urban immigrant native and socioeconomically disadvantaged students and their families who live, work and pay taxes in the greater East Los Angeles, CA,

Whereas, Academia is the first elementary school in the City of Los Angeles to

implement the world renowned International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program,

Whereas, Academia is the first school in the City of Los Angeles to offer an Indigenous educational program that includes the instruction of Nahuatl, Danza Azteca, and other forms of Indigenous knowledge,

Whereas, Academia is the first school in the City of Los Angeles to offer Mandarin as a foreign language to children in East Los Angeles from kinder through eighth grades,

Whereas, since the opening of Academia in 2002, enrollment has increased 250% from 2002 thru 2006 demonstrating a tremendous demand for this school.

Whereas, Academia's English Language Learner students are outperforming their Los Angeles Unified School District peers in English language achievement according to the State's California English Language Development Test,

Whereas, Academia's first entering class and current sixth grade class is outperforming all local public middle schools according to the State's Academic Performance Index,

1. Therefore be it resolved that the National Latino Congreso and all its constituents pledge to support Academia and all other similar alternative educational institutions of education in their work for Educational Equity,

2. AND therefore be it finally resolved that the National Latino Congreso and its constituents support the re-authorization of the Charter of the Academia Semillas del Pueblo Charter School by its chartering authorities, the Los Angeles Unified School District and the State of California Board of Education.
