Los grupos que defienden los derechos de los inmigrantes en Estados Unidos multiplican acciones de cabildeo en el Congreso para pedir a los senadores que introduzcan modificaciones al proyecto de ley de reforma migratoria que resolvieron comenzar a debatir el lunes.

Algunas de estas agrupaciones organizaron este martes un evento en salas del Congreso para pedir cambios al proyecto, menos de 24 horas despu?de que el Senado abriera formalmente el debate sobre una iniciativa de ley que es producto de un acuerdo de democratas y republicanos, con apoyo de la Casa Blanca.

WHEREAS, there is no national forum to bring together healthcare issues on a national level. Latino communities want to come together to develop a platform of issues and policies; and

WHEREAS, There is a major shortage of nurses who are bi-lingual and bi-cultural. There are Mexican nurses who are properly trained and could be recruited to work in the USA until we can train US born young people to be nurses; and

WHEREAS, there is no Latino agency to address the health issues of Latinos on a national basis. We need a national infra-structure to educate the Latino community and advocate; and

WHEREAS Latino communities are being affected by the reduction in services or closure of public hospitals; and

Whereas Latinos are not being given quality srevices with compasion and with language and cultural sensitivity; and

Wheras the County of Los Angeles closed down Martin Luther King Jr. Medical Center without a plan in place to reopen the Hospital. Delays are effecting the health and lives of the residents in South Central Los Angeles; and

Whereas the County has failed to move quickly to reopen the Hospital;


NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CONGRESO LATINO AS FOLLOWS:

1. That a National Latino Congreso on healthcare be established; and

2. That the congreso endorse a program to bring Mexican and Central American nurses who are qualified and credentialed to work in the USA under a workers Visa (NAFTA & CAFTA); and

3. That the creation of a national organization and infra-structure to address the concerns, educate and advocate for Latinos; and

4. That it supports the efforts of the South Central Coalition for Quality Healthcare to urge the County and City of Los Angeles, the State of California and Congressional Representative to act quickly and diligently to reopen the Hospital; and

5. That the Plan prepared by Hammes group be approved by the Board of Supervisor and create a non-profit management agency with interested participants that wants to help manage the Hospital; and

6. That we do not consider the University of California as CARING to serve the residents of South Central Los Angeles and that the County Board of Supervisors stop trying to convince the University.
