¿Permisos para 'sin papeles'?
Así como en Arizona y Alabama se han promovido legislaciones que restringen derechos a los inmigrantes sin papeles, en California se estará impulsando una iniciativa que otorgaría permiso de trabajo legal a los indocumentados.

Se trata del "Plan California", una iniciativa que ayer se reveló en el Congreso Latino que se llevó a cabo en el Pitzer College de Claremont, con la cual se estaría desafiando a las leyes federales ante la inacción del Congreso y de la Casa Blanca respecto a la reforma migratoria.

Show Organizations who Support or Oppose this Resolution

WHEREAS, the Cesar E. Chavez Commemoration Committee of Lubbock Texas has organized for eight years to convince the Lubbock City Council to rename one of it's streets in honor of Cesar Chavez, which would be the first time in Lubbock, Texas history that a street is named after a Latino; and,

WHEREAS, the Committee will launch a vigil and fast today October 10, 2007 as a demonstrative way to convince the Lubbock City Council which will deliberate this week as to whether it will adopt the Cesar E. Chavez street name;

1. THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the organizations represented by delegates of the 2007 National Latino Congreso call on the Lubbock City Council to rename a street for Cesar E. Chavez as dozens of cities have done across the nation, and

2. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we extend our solidarity to all the brothers and sisters who have worked tirelessly for this effort as they begin their vigil and fast.

Amendment:

Amendment to Resolution 9.24 – Resolution to Show Solidarity with Latinos in Lubbock, Texas Who Seek Street Name for Cesar E. Chavez

Amendment subject: Solidarity with Latino led effort in Dallas to name street for Cesar E. Chavez

1. Add as 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th perambulatory paragraphs, the following:

“Whereas; the National Latino Congreso support for a street name change in Lubbock, Texas for Cesar E. Chavez played an important role in the Lubbock City Council deciding to do just that after a long, hard fought struggle for over 7 years: and

Whereas, after a public poll was taken by the Dallas City Council to see what name the people of Dallas wanted for a city street and 51% said they wanted a street named for Cesar Chavez yet the City Council did not name the street for Cesar Chavez: and

Whereas, now there is an effort to rename a street for Cesar Chavez in Dallas, Texas: and

Whereas, the Dallas Cesar E. Chavez Task Force, a coalition of organizations, elected officials and other leaders, has formed to work for a street name change for Cesar Chavez in Dallas in keeping with the will of the people there;”

2. Add as items 3 and 4 the following:

“3. THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the organizations represented by delegates of the 2008 National Latino Congreso call on the Dallas City Council to rename a street for Cesar E. Chavez as dozens of cities have done across the nation, and

4. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we extend our solidarity to the Dallas Cesar E. Chavez Task Force and all those in Dallas who are working in support of a street name change for Cesar Chavez.”
