¿Permisos para 'sin papeles'?
Así como en Arizona y Alabama se han promovido legislaciones que restringen derechos a los inmigrantes sin papeles, en California se estará impulsando una iniciativa que otorgaría permiso de trabajo legal a los indocumentados.

Se trata del "Plan California", una iniciativa que ayer se reveló en el Congreso Latino que se llevó a cabo en el Pitzer College de Claremont, con la cual se estaría desafiando a las leyes federales ante la inacción del Congreso y de la Casa Blanca respecto a la reforma migratoria.

WHEREAS the 2006 National Latino Congreso (NLC) considered Resolution 4.14, “In Defense Of Human Rights Of All People,” which stated, “The Latino Community is a multi-ethnic population and not the homogenous group that is often portrayed by the media and by popular stereotype;” and

WHEREAS NLC resolved in Resolution 4.14, “That the Latino Congreso encourage inclusion of the full diversity of the Latino population and support policies that address issues of racial discrimination as suffered by Indigenous peoples and Afro-Latinos;” and

WHEREAS racial profiling incites stereotyping of the Latino community; and thus does not allow for the encouragement of inclusion in the community at large; and

WHEREAS the Sheriff’s office of Maricopa County, Arizona has installed a telephone hotline (602-876-4154) where Sheriff Arpaio asks callers, “To fight illegal immigration;”

1. NOW THEREFOE BE IT RESOLVED that the organizations represented by delegates of the 2007 National Latino Congreso denounce Maricopa County’s immigration hotline for encouraging racial profiling and promoting discrimination of the Latino community of Maricopa County by calling the hotline 602-876-4154 and expressing opposition to the racial profiling behind such a hotline; and

2. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the organizations represented by delegates of the 2007 National Latino Congreso demand that Sheriff Arpaio immediately cease his practices of encouraging racial profiling in Maricopa County and without delay disconnect said hotline.
